AISI 303
Under the standardization AISI 303, we understand the following steel grade in the German material system:
1.4305 – X8CrNiS18-9 (AISI 303)
AISI 303 is an austenitic, stainless 18/10 Cr-Ni steel alloyed with sulfur to improve machining performance (free-cutting steel).
Therefore the 1.4305 is the reference grade among the cutting materials. The corrosion resistance is reduced by the high sulfur content of the stainless steel 303 and corresponds approximately to the material 1.4016. The quality is unsuitable for joint welding and cold forming.
The AISI 303 material is not resistant to intergranular corrosion. A special feature of V2A steel is its suitability for temperatures up to 400°C. In order to reduce the risk of hot cracking during forging, usually a low temperature is selected.
AISI 303 is used in the automotive industry, medium corrosive equipment, kitchen equipment and general engineering.
